The Medication Aide/CNA performs duties according to accepted nursing practice necessary to provide the highest quality of resident care, under the direction of licensed personnel. The Medication AideCNA provides complete care of residents assigned to include dispensing medications and providing personnel care under the direction of licensed personnel on duty, according to established procedures and regulatory guidelines. The Medication Aide/CNA will be responsible for dispensing of medications, some documentation, assisting participants with ADL’s, leading activity programs, working closely with families and volunteers. The ideal Medication Aide/CNA candidate must have a high school diploma/GED, be a Registered Medication Aide in this state and a licensed CNA. He/She must have a current certification in CPR/First Aid, computer skills, experience working with individuals with dementia and some activity programs experience, is preferred. 

The following is a representative list of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position: 
-- Dispense medications under direction, and with approval, of licensed nurse, according to established procedures
-- Order, receive and inventory medications according to established policies and procedures
-- Document pertinent information in the resident’s record, completes incident reports as needed
-- Participate in checking or second checking new orders received daily
-- Participate in monthly MAR turnover as assigned
-- Maintain documentation regarding medication administration according to established procedures
-- Contribute to completion of service plans and uses established approaches to reach goals
-- Enter lab requests as needed based on doctors’ orders.
-- Assure needed charts are in the clinic for doctor’s appointments and returned to the neighborhood when completed
-- Document on shift to shift report and provides pass down report with on-coming shift
-- Order supplies and nourishment as needed
-- Give baths including whirlpools and showers and bed baths
-- Assist with general hygiene including shampoos, nail care, shaving and dressing. Provides care of dentures and oral hygiene
-- Perform bed making, occupied and unoccupied
-- Perform skin care activities and proper positioning
-- Assist residents with using cane, walker, and gait belt. Performs ROM when ordered
-- Assist residents with meeting restorative goals, transfers residents using proper body mechanics and techniques when needed
-- Perform incontinent care to include peri-care, bowel and bladder training and toileting. Properly disposes of incontinent products
-- Serve as hostess, assists and monitors residents in the dining room as needed
-- Care for residents with Foley catheters including proper positioning of tubing and drainage bag, emptying bag and catheter care
-- Performs care of residents with oxygen including observing for complications
-- Take vital signs and weights, as directed on all residents
-- Practice appropriate infection control to include universal precautions
-- Maintain care of linen and residents’ clothing, clean and soiled
-- Respond promptly to calls from residents and is prepared to act in emergency situations
-- Assist with admission and transfer of residents
-- Participate in mandatory in-services as required to include continuing education required to maintain registration as a Medication Aide
  High school diploma/GED with further training to achieve Certification
  Licensed as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in this state
  Licensed as a Medication Aide in this state
  Prior relevant experience desired
  Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  Maintains general sanitary/safety practices
  Genuine desire to work with the elderly and/or disabled
  An up-beat and engaging personality
  Able to exert 50-100 pounds of force to assist in resident transfers
  Current CPR/First Aid certification (or is willing to obtain within 60 days of hire)
